Last year, it even made it possible for the brewery to dabble in distilling (Jack’s plans to keep that license active so the taproom can continue serving spirits). With the sale, Jack’s Abby — changing its corporate name to the Hendler Family Brewing Co. after the three brothers who founded it in Framingham 13 years ago — becomes one of the 30 biggest breweries in the country. Wormtown contributes more than 20,000 barrels of beer per year to Jack’s output, which also includes beer it makes on contract for other brewers. In total, Jack’s Abby’s production will rise to over 110,000 barrels annually.
Tree House Deerfield: A hidden brewery like none other
The company hopes to be able to open next year, and has purchased property on Route 9, near the entrance to the City of Saratoga Springs. The company has four locations in Massachusetts in Deerfield, Sandwich, Tewksbury and Charlton, as well as one in Woodstock, Connecticut. Chairman Charles Marshall said the company has worked to incorporate many of the items the board and public raised over the last several months.

WORCESTER — Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers said Friday it will buy Worcester’s oldest, largest brewer, Wormtown Brewery, merging two of the state’s more recognizable beer brands and reshaping the craft beer landscape outside of Boston. Jack’s Abby, now the second largest brewery outside of Boston, reported only a 3% decline in 2020 despite losing 40% of its production volume early on during the pandemic when it lost all of its on-premise accounts — bars and restaurants. Even as the 40,800 barrels Jack’s Abby sold fell short of its goal, co-founder Sam Hendler said the brewery feels blessed it managed even that amount. Four years ago, Wachusett Brewing Co. toasted another double-digit jump in volume, reporting that it sold over 64,000 barrels, up 35% from 2016’s 51,239 mark.

Harpoon, the 14th largest brewery in the country, brewed 146,000 barrels last year, also a 16% decline over 2019. Last year, that total fell to 27,250, which puts Wachusett well below the top 50 biggest breweries in the country. Montauk, on the other hand, just cracked the top 50 last year, reporting 49,000 barrels; just how much of that production came from Wachusett is unknown. Like all revolutions, this, too, began as a desire for change—as an overthrow of the old and the monopolistic.
We smell a ton of peach on the nose, with complementary notes of orange, mango, and passionfruit. The flavor is similar with a blast of citrus fruit & peach nectar quickly followed by a bounty of tropical fruit. Haze is the distillation of years of focused hands on brewing endeavor at Tree House... It is an unfiltered and intensely kettle and dry hopped Tree House Double IPA - a real juice bomb of a beer and one that gets better and better as you work your way through the glass. Like every hot craft brewery making sought-after beers, there’s a limit to how many cans people can buy at one time. A tweet by Tree House on July 15 suggests that might not be the case in the future, though.

For us, success is measured by making products and curating experiences we are proud of. With this in mind, we could not be more excited to make a House in Tewksbury at the Country Club. Crushing demand for our beer and visitation often led to a poor experience at our brewery in Charlton. But, in keeping with our longstanding promise to you, we used time during COVID to make moves.

While the company now has four additional locations (in Deerfield, Mass.; Sandwich, Mass.; Tewksbury, Mass; and Woodstock, Conn.), beer lovers must still consume or collect all Tree House products on-site. In searching tirelessly for a Tree House location north of Boston, we reached numerous dead ends when trying to find a property that met our standard marrying great architecture, accessibility, and an expansive outdoor environment. We were so delighted to find this property; with it’s towering timber frame aesthetic, it mimics a property that we would have considered building ourselves. It is an ideal showcase for the tremendous talents of our creative teams in brewing, coffee roasting, distilling, farming, and cooking. For perhaps the first time in Massachusetts craft beer, the largest brewery outside of Boston doesn’t distribute.
Doppelganger is an imperial version of Alter Ego and a sister beer to King Julius. It is intensely kettle and dry hopped to produce a pungent and flavorful Double IPA that is super pleasant to drink featuring tropical fruit, mango, citrus, and stone fruit flavors. It’s a cornucopia of delicious fruity hop character presented with the juicy body of an unfiltered Tree House Double IPA. It represents the culmination of years of hands on brewing experience, with refined, elegant flavors that are enjoyable time and time again. Another important byproduct of the explosion of the craft beer industry is the sense of community it has fostered. Supporting small businesses like local breweries and taprooms is a way for people to connect over and about beer, to appreciate the renaissance of the millennia-old tradition of brewing.
Hello, Cape Cod!
Tree House became a household name among beer geeks on the backs of big, hazy New England IPAs. Julius is one of its most famous (and one of the best beers in the country). In Charlton, we participate yearly in Earth Day activities, donate time and energy to the Festival of Giving Trees, support several nearby charitable initiatives, and donated yearly to a nearby nature sanctuary. The Country Club is situated ideally just minutes off of both Interstate 495 and 93 and less than 30 minutes from downtown Boston.
Tree House locations offer a variety of brewed beers with unique flavors such as, Nervous Energy Oreo, Ghost Emoji, Don't Let Go W/ Marshmallow, Queen Julius and more. The locations also offer food items such as wood fired pizza, lobster rolls and food trucks. It's unusual for a brewery to offer great beers, outstanding food, live music from nationally recognized acts and the possibility of hosting birthday parties, business functions and even weddings, but Tree House in Deerfield is indeed an unusual place. The increase in the number of microbreweries, taprooms, brewpubs, and craft breweries, the sector has also led to enormous job growth over roughly the same period, with a 55% increase in the number of brewery employees.
We carry a great deal of pride to bring well-paying jobs to the Sandwich community. We put this page together to share details on our brewery in Sandwich and our philosophy of doing business. It will clarify any questions you may have about the operation, and articulate why visiting will be a well-controlled and intimate experience with the utmost consideration and care for the location.
Hurricane is a Double IPA featuring intense kettle and dry hop doses of primarily Simcoe & Citra hops! A pungent aroma of fresh citrus gives way to a beer rich with complexity, conjuring perceptions of mandarin orange juice, melon, papaya, and stone fruit. It is a pleasure to drink all the way through the glass, with layers of fruity complexity revealing themselves as the beer is allowed to warm. By applying years of focused brewing execution, we are able to craft Hurricane - a beer that is neither abrasive or harsh, and features tirelessly refined characteristics. It is the result of our uncompromising dedication to fresh, progressive, and pleasantly drinkable beer. We invite you to enjoy it with laughter, good cheer, and in the company of those you love.
Cans are packaged Tuesday through Friday, and the brewery typically runs out of beers throughout the week. To know which beers are available at any given time, the brewery set up an ON-TAP page. The Massachusetts brewery draws fans from around the Northeast who are dedicated enough to wait for hours to buy beer. Some trade their haul for other rare, hard-to-find cans, while others sit back and enjoy it themselves.
